Mensuration questions with solutions
6 from the 233-question pool, worked in full.
1. A hollow cylindrical cardboard roll has outer radius 6 cm, inner radius 2 cm and length 28 cm. Using π=22/7, what volume of cardboard does the roll contain?
- A. 2,464 cm³
- B. 2,816 cm³ ✓
- C. 3,168 cm³
- D. 3,520 cm³
Solution. Cardboard volume=π(R²−r²)h=(22/7)(36−4)×28=(22/7)×32×28=2,816 cm³.
2. Find the curved surface area of a cone with radius 14 cm and slant height 10 cm. (Use π = 22/7)
- A. 420 cm²
- B. 440 cm² ✓
- C. 460 cm²
- D. 400 cm²
Solution. Curved surface area = πrl = (22/7) × 14 × 10 = 22 × 2 × 10 = 440 cm².
3. Find the area of a rectangle with length 15 m and breadth 8 m.
- A. 110 sq. m
- B. 115 sq. m
- C. 120 sq. m ✓
- D. 125 sq. m
Solution. Area of a rectangle = length × breadth = 15 × 8 = 120 sq. m.
4. A square field has the same perimeter as a rectangle 54 m long and 30 m wide. By how many square metres does the square's area exceed the rectangle's area?
- A. 108 m^2
- B. 180 m^2
- C. 144 m^2 ✓
- D. 216 m^2
Solution. Rectangle perimeter=2(54+30)=168 m, so square side=42 m. Areas: square 1764, rectangle 1620. Difference=144 m^2.
5. Find the volume of a cylinder with radius 3 cm and height 7 cm. (Use pi = 22/7.)
- A. 189 cm^3
- B. 198 cm^3 ✓
- C. 176 cm^3
- D. 154 cm^3
Solution. Volume = pi x r^2 x h = (22/7) x 9 x 7 = 22 x 9 = 198 cm^3.
6. Using π = 22/7, find the area of a circle with radius 28 cm.
- A. 2,400 cm²
- B. 2,420 cm²
- C. 2,440 cm²
- D. 2,464 cm² ✓
Solution. Area = πr² = (22/7) × 28 × 28 = 22 × 28 × 4 = 2,464 cm².
