The three sections are not worth the same, and that is the thing most candidates miss. Each gets 50 questions and its own separately timed 40-minute window, but English Language carries 0.5 marks a question while Reasoning and Quantitative Aptitude carry 1. So a wrong English answer costs half of what a right one earns, against a quarter in the other two, and a guess needs to come off better than one time in three to pay in English against one time in five elsewhere.
