Two of every four questions here are Biology: 90 of the 180, carrying 360 of the 720 marks, which is what Physics and Chemistry carry between them. Two things this page is careful about beyond the weighting. No mandatory internal split between Botany and Zoology is built into the Biology block, because the paper asserts none. And the delivery mode differs from the practice, since NTA runs this on OMR sheets in a hall while everything on this site is on screen, so the seconds an answer sheet costs a candidate are reproduced in none of these timings.

That works out to about 60 seconds per question on average, before any time spent reading instructions or revisiting marked answers. The 3 sections are Physics, Chemistry and Biology (Botany & Zoology). Biology (Botany & Zoology) carries the most, 360 marks of the 720 or about 50%, against 180 marks for Chemistry. All sections share one composite timer, so you are free to move between them and spend your time where it earns most.
NEET UG marking scheme
- Each correct answer is worth 4 marks.
- A wrong answer deducts 1 mark; an unattempted question scores zero.
- A guess therefore breaks even at 20% accuracy: above that it gains you marks on average, below it loses them. A blind guess between four options is right 25% of the time, which is already above that line, so an educated guess is worth making rather than leaving the question blank.
- Worked example: attempt 144 of the 180 questions and get 108 right and 36 wrong, and you score 396 out of 720.
