How many correct answers do I need for a Band 7 in IELTS General Training Reading?
Roughly 34 to 35 correct answers out of 40, a higher bar than Academic Reading's 30 to 32, since General Training's texts are considered easier overall.
Is there negative marking in IELTS Reading?
No. Each correct answer scores 1 mark, with no deduction for a wrong or unattempted question. Your raw score out of 40 is then converted to a band score from 1 to 9.
What is the difference between IELTS Academic and General Training Reading?
Section 1 uses short social or survival texts such as notices, advertisements, and guides, Section 2 uses workplace-related texts, and Section 3 is one longer, general-interest text similar in style to the Academic test. Academic Reading instead uses three passages drawn from books, journals, and academic sources throughout.
