A free IELTS Reading practice series for both the Academic and General Training papers. Each is 40 questions in 60 minutes across three passages, rendered as multiple choice so it can be scored instantly. Every IELTS online test here is free to attempt.
The three passages get harder as you go, and the 60 minutes are yours to divide as you like, which is a combination most candidates handle badly. Splitting the hour evenly gives 20 minutes to a first passage that rarely needs it and 20 to a third that often does. Work the first passage faster than feels comfortable and bank the difference for the last one. There is no negative marking: each correct answer scores 1 mark out of 40, and that raw score converts to a band from 1 to 9 on IELTS's published table, so leaving a question blank can only cost you. Academic draws its passages from books, journals and newspapers; General Training opens with short everyday and workplace texts and ends with one longer general-interest piece.

There is no negative marking: each correct answer scores 1 mark, and the raw score out of 40 is later converted to a band score from 1 to 9 using IELTS's published conversion table. This practice test uses a multiple-choice format for every question so it can be scored instantly; the official test also uses other formats such as matching and sentence completion for the same reading skills.

Start with a full-length mock if you have not sat the whole IELTS paper under its official timer before: it is the only thing here that tells you whether you can finish in time. Move to the 6 sectional tests once the full mock has shown you which section is costing you marks, and use them to rebuild that one section rather than re-sitting the whole paper each time.
