West Bengal Joint Entrance Lateral Entry Test
Two scoring categories run inside every section here. Category 1 is single-correct at 1 mark with 0.25 deducted. Category 2 is multi-select, paying 2 for selecting all and only the correct options, nothing at all if you include an incorrect one, and a partial share otherwise. That asymmetry is worth planning around, because on Category 2 a cautious partial selection beats a complete but contaminated one. Paper I admits Diploma, B.Sc., D.Voc. and B.Voc. candidates by lateral entry, and Mathematics is its largest section at 40 questions and 50 of the 120 marks.

JELET-2026 Paper-I is the lateral-entry route for Diploma in Engineering/Technology, B.Sc., D.Voc. and B.Voc. candidates; Paper-II (Diploma Pharmacy) is out of scope. Each section mixes Category-1 (single-correct MCQ, +1 correct/-0.25 wrong) and Category-2 (multi-select, +2 for selecting all and only the correct options, 0 for selecting any incorrect option, and 2 × selectedCorrect / totalActuallyCorrect for a proper correct-only subset, with no negative marking) questions: Mathematics 30+10, Physics 25+5, Chemistry 15+5, and Fundamentals of Electrical & Electronics Engineering 10+0.

That works out to about 72 seconds per question on average, before any time spent reading instructions or revisiting marked answers. The 4 sections are Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Fundamentals of Electrical & Electronics Engineering. Mathematics carries the most, 50 marks of the 120 or about 42%, against 10 marks for Fundamentals of Electrical & Electronics Engineering. Marks per question are not uniform across sections either, so an equal number of questions does not mean equal weight. All sections share one composite timer, so you are free to move between them and spend your time where it earns most.
