Panjab University Lateral Engineering Entrance Test
This is a lateral-entry route rather than a freshman engineering entrance, and the weighting says so plainly. General Engineering takes 60 of the 100 questions, drawn from basic electrical engineering, basic electronics, programming fundamentals and mechanical fundamentals, while Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and General Aptitude take 10 apiece. Your diploma coursework is the preparation here, and Class 12 or JEE material reaches 30 questions of the 100. Panjab University admits on this into the second year of a B.E. programme, and its 2026 prospectus confirms the split. One hundred questions in 100 minutes leaves a clean minute each.

PULEET 2026 is Panjab University’s lateral-entry route for Diploma and eligible D.Voc. candidates into the second year of a B.E. programme, distinct from a Class-12/JEE freshman engineering entrance. That works out to about 60 seconds per question on average, before any time spent reading instructions or revisiting marked answers. The 5 sections are General Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and General Aptitude and Communication Skills. General Engineering carries the most, 60 marks of the 100 or about 60%, against 10 marks for General Aptitude and Communication Skills. All sections share one composite timer, so you are free to move between them and spend your time where it earns most.
PULEET Engineering Lateral Entry marking scheme
- Each correct answer is worth 1 mark.
- A wrong answer deducts 0.25 marks; an unattempted question scores zero.
- A guess therefore breaks even at 20% accuracy: above that it gains you marks on average, below it loses them. A blind guess between four options is right 25% of the time, which is already above that line, so an educated guess is worth making rather than leaving the question blank.
- Worked example: attempt 80 of the 100 questions and get 60 right and 20 wrong, and you score 55 out of 100.
