Two sections, and one of them is a single subject. Mathematics takes 50 questions and 200 of the 400 marks on its own, while Physics and Chemistry share the other 50 questions and 200 marks between them, so one subject is worth as much as the two sciences together and a plan divided three ways gives it a third of its due. The level is polytechnic rather than 10+2, so the syllabus sits at school-leaving standard and material written for an engineering entrance pitches above it. Nothing is deducted for a wrong answer, and 150 minutes across 100 questions leaves 90 seconds each.

JEECUP / UPJEE(P) 2026 Group A Engineering & Technology is conducted by the Joint Entrance Examination Council, Uttar Pradesh for admission to Group A polytechnic diploma courses. The current official 2026 brochure directly fixes Mathematics at 50% and Physics & Chemistry jointly at 50% of the paper; it does not publish an internal Physics-versus-Chemistry split, so the combined 50-question section is kept as a single 'Physics & Chemistry' section rather than an invented 25/25 split. 100 four-option MCQs for 400 marks in 150 minutes, +4 per correct answer with no negative marking. That works out to about 90 seconds per question on average, before any time spent reading instructions or revisiting marked answers. The 2 sections are Mathematics and Physics & Chemistry. All 2 sections carry 200 marks each, so none of them repays disproportionate preparation and a weakness anywhere costs the same. All sections share one composite timer, so you are free to move between them and spend your time where it earns most.
JEECUP Group A Engineering & Technology marking scheme
- Each correct answer is worth 4 marks.
- There is no negative marking, so leaving a question blank can only cost you: an unattempted question and a wrong one score the same zero. Attempt everything.
- Worked example: attempt 80 of the 100 questions and get 60 right and 20 wrong, and you score 240 out of 400.
