BITS Admission Test 2026: Mathematics variant
Thirty of these 130 questions are English Proficiency and Logical Reasoning, worth 90 of the 390 marks between them, and a candidate revising PCM alone leaves every one of them untouched. Mathematics is the biggest block at 40 questions and 120 marks. One thing the table does not show: BITSAT offers 12 optional extra questions to candidates who finish early, and they are not part of this variant, so 130 here is the whole of what is built. Three marks for a correct answer against 1 deducted puts break-even at one in four, exactly what four options return to a blind guess.

This is the standard 130-question Mathematics variant. Each correct answer earns 3 marks, each incorrect answer deducts 1 mark, and unattempted questions score zero. The optional 12 extra questions are not included.

That works out to about 83 seconds per question on average, before any time spent reading instructions or revisiting marked answers. The 5 sections are Physics, Chemistry, English Proficiency, Logical Reasoning and Mathematics. Mathematics carries the most, 120 marks of the 390 or about 31%, against 30 marks for English Proficiency. All sections share one composite timer, so you are free to move between them and spend your time where it earns most.
BITSAT Mathematics Variant marking scheme
- Each correct answer is worth 3 marks.
- A wrong answer deducts 1 mark; an unattempted question scores zero.
- A guess therefore breaks even at 25% accuracy: above that it gains you marks on average, below it loses them. That is exactly what a blind guess between four options returns, so guessing at random neither gains nor loses marks over a long paper. The moment you can rule out even one option, it starts paying.
