MCAT exam pattern
Critical Analysis and Reasoning Skills
Official 2026 patternHumanities · Social Sciences. Negative marking: 0 per wrong answer. Single composite 40-minute timer for both disciplines combined: no sectional lock.
The official CARS (Critical Analysis and Reasoning Skills) section has 53 questions across 9 short passages in 90 minutes, drawn equally from Humanities and Social Sciences disciplines (ethics, philosophy, history, political science, sociology, and related fields), all 4-option multiple choice answered strictly from the passage, with no outside subject knowledge required. This mock is a TakeMockTest-defined shorter set: 24 questions across 6 passages in 40 minutes, split evenly between the two disciplines, for focused practice rather than the full official item count. The other three MCAT sections, Biological and Biochemical Foundations of Living Systems, Chemical and Physical Foundations of Biological Systems, and Psychological, Social, and Biological Foundations of Behavior, are not included here: unlike CARS, where every answer is verifiable directly from the passage, those sections require rigorously fact-checked science content, which this site is intentionally reserving for its standard content-review process rather than self-authoring. There is no negative marking. This mock shows your raw score; the official test reports a scaled 118-132 score per section instead.
