Seven Engineering Entrance Exams Beyond JEE Main You Might Not Know About
Most engineering-entrance conversations stop at JEE Main, JEE Advanced, and BITSAT, and understandably so, they cover the largest number of seats. Seven more exams on this site fill in the rest of the picture: one central university's own admission test, three state entrance exams, one vacant-seat backup route, and two postgraduate exams. None of them are interchangeable with each other, and knowing what each one is actually for saves you from preparing for the wrong thing.
- AMU B.Tech. Admission Test is Aligarh Muslim University's own exam, not JEE-Main-based: 100 questions, +1/-0.25, and no officially published per-subject split.
- Assam CEE, CG PET, and CUSAT CAT are each a state or institute's own primary engineering entrance, with three very different formats: locked timer, free timer, and no-negative-marking respectively.
- BCECE PCM is not Bihar's main engineering route (that is UGEAC, via JEE Main); it exists for vacant seats after the primary counselling round.

AMU B.Tech.: a central university's own gate
Aligarh Muslim University runs its own B.Tech. Admission Test rather than accepting JEE Main scores: 100 questions across Chemistry, Physics, and Mathematics, 120 minutes, +1 for a correct answer and -0.25 for a wrong one. Three state entrances, three different formats
Assam CEE (120 questions, +4/-1, ASSEB Division-II state-board syllabus rather than NCERT), CG PET (150 questions, no negative marking at all), and CUSAT CAT (225 questions, the tightest pacing of the seven at under 48 seconds a question) are each a state or institute's own primary route into its engineering colleges. All three run on a single free-navigation timer, but the scoring and pacing differ enough that treating them as interchangeable prep would be a mistake. BCECE PCM: a backup route, not a first choice
BCECE PCM is easy to mistake for Bihar's main engineering entrance. It is not: the regular first-year route into Bihar's government engineering colleges is UGEAC, using JEE Main 2026 scores. BCECE PCM covers seats that remain vacant once that primary counselling finishes, a genuine backup worth preparing for, but not where a Bihar-based PCM student's main effort should go. Two postgraduate exams, two very different reaches
BITS HD and GATE CS both sit at the postgraduate Computer Science level, but they are not substitutes for each other. BITS HD's M.E. Computer Science paper is a straightforward 100-question, all-MCQ format, +3/-1, valid for a seat at BITS Pilani specifically.
